Blind

Said of someone who cannot see, who has lost the use of both eyes. The word also names the person: a blind man.

عَبَرَ الرَّجُلُ الْأَعْمَى الطَّرِيقَ مَعَ سَامِي.

The blind man crossed the road with Sami.

Blind in mind

By image, said of someone who does not see what is nonetheless plain: he fails to recognise what is right or will not see the obvious.

كَانَ رَامِي أَعْمَى عَنْ عُيُوبِ صَدِيقِهِ.

Rami was blind to his friend’s faults.
