To get to the place one was heading for. Said of a person, a letter or an object that arrives at its destination.
بَلَغَ الْمُسَافِرُونَ الْقَرْيَةَ قَبْلَ اللَّيْلِ.
The travellers reached the village before nightfall.
To come to a certain point in time, in number or in a state.
بَلَغَتِ الْحَرَارَةُ أَرْبَعِينَ دَرَجَةً.
The temperature reached forty degrees.
Said of a boy or a girl leaving childhood, and of a fruit that ripens.
بَلَغَ الْوَلَدُ وَصَارَ شَابًّا.
The boy came of age and became a young man.
Said of a piece of news or a remark that reaches someone: “I have heard that…”.
بَلَغَ لَيْلَى خَبَرُ نَجَاحِهَا.
The news of her success reached Layla.
What the root means ب ل غ
The root carries the idea of arriving at the end one is making for. From it come “arrival, coming of age”, “to convey”, “notification”, “eloquent” and “eloquence” (speech that hits its mark), and “exaggeration” (going all the way).
