Having, endowed with
Placed before another noun, it says what a woman or a thing is provided with, what marks it out: “she who has…”, “endowed with…”.
In some turns of phrase it names not the holder but what is contained: what is in the belly, in the hand, in the heart.
Before a word of time it places an event at an unspecified moment: “one day”, “one night”, “once”.
Used on its own as a noun, it means what a thing is in itself, its own nature, and a person’s very self.
ذَوَاتٌ
reality, true nature
حَقِيقَةٌ
Close to the headword only in its sense of “very self, essence”: it means what a thing really is as opposed to how it appears, whereas the headword means the thing itself.
self, the very person
Close to the headword only in its sense of “very self, person”: it is mostly said of a living being, with its desires and inner life, whereas the headword is said of any thing.
