A time, a period
A time of vague length, short or long: a moment, a period, an age. What follows it, or the context, tells which time is meant.
Placed before a clause or a noun, it sets one event in the time of another: "when", "at the time of".
Used on its own to say how long or at what point: for some time, at one moment.
