Water
The liquid that is drunk, that of rain, wells, rivers and the sea.
شَرِبَ الطَّالِبُ مَاءً بَارِدًا

The root is that of water itself. Its words speak of a well filling up, of reaching water when digging, and, by image, of what is coated with a thin shining layer, whence the idea of disguising.
