The male human being, as opposed to the woman; said above all of the adult, past boyhood.
سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ عَنْ مَحَطَّةِ الْقِطَارِ.
A man asked where the railway station was.
Also said of a woman’s spouse: “her man”.
ذَهَبَتِ الْجَارَةُ مَعَ رَجُلِهَا إِلَى السُّوقِ.
The neighbour went to the market with her husband.
Used as a quality: one who has all the strength and firmness expected of a man, “a real man”.
أَثْبَتَ الشَّابُّ أَنَّهُ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ الشِّدَّةِ.
The young man proved he was a man in hardship.
