Meaning and usage

to give

To hand a thing or some property to someone. Turned the other way round, it is also said of the one who receives it.

آتَى الْمُعَلِّمُ الطَّالِبَ كِتَابًا.

The teacher gave the student a book.

to bring

To make a thing come to someone, to carry it to him. This is the first sense, from which that of giving comes.

آتَى سَامِي الْجَارَ مَاءً بَارِدًا.

Sami brought the neighbour cold water.
