Daytime
The lit part of the day, from sunrise to sunset, as opposed to night. Said of the time when people work and can see clearly.
The farmer works in the field all day long.
Less often, the word is used to count a day as a unit of time. It then equals the common word for a day.
Sami spent a whole day at the library.
What the root means ن ه ر
The root carries the idea of what spreads widely and in abundance: water that flows and cuts itself a bed, and light that spreads out. From it come the river, flowing, making something pour out, widening, and the day, the time when light unfolds.
